Research and Development (R&D)

The examination branch is well established, modern equipment, adequate teaching and nonteaching staff, conducts the Under Graduate, Post Graduate Internal and External examinations. The examination branch is headed by examination coordinators. It works with the help of computer programmers, Office assistants, and Data entry operators and other helpers. It also maintains personal and academic record of all the students admitted to various courses. The examination branch carries its activities keeping in view the guidelines recommended by UGC/Osmania University from time to time. The faculty and students are governed by the rules and regulations framed by the Examination Branch of this college.

After semester system was introduced semester examination were conducted twice a year. A student should obtain minimum 40% in each theory and practical paper to qualify a general pass.

Attendance Requirements

  • Candidate admitted to a particular course of study are required to pursue a ‘Regular course of Study’ before they are permitted to appear for the University Examination.
  • A regular course of study means putting in attendance of not less than 75% of the lectures and practicals in all papers. In special cases and for sufficient cause shown, the Vice-Chancellor may, on the specific recommendation of the principal condone the deficiency in attendance to the extent of 10% on medical grounds\subject to the production of Medical Certificate and payment of ‘Condonation fee’ as prescribed by the University.
  • Candidates not having the requisite attendance will not be allowed to appear for the examination at the end of the semester.

The Procedure to be followed for granting readmission to the students in the following cases

  • A student who did not pass in the required number of papers and thus detained and promoted
  • A student who did not put in the required attendance in a semester/year of a course and thus detained
  • A student after completing a semester/year did not continue their studies in the next immediate semester/year on personal/health grounds but desired to continue his/her studies
  • Candidates who, after completing a semester/year of the course but taken T.C to join some other course and comeback to continue the earlier course
  • Candidates who did not register for the first semester exam due to any reason and have put in minimum 40% attendance in the semester are eligible to take readmission In next academic year

In all above cases, readmission is permissible provided they are within the stipulated periods as per the University norms communicated from time to time (as per the guidelines of UGC stipulated period for completing the course is normal or minimum duration prescribed for the completion of the course+ 2 years w.e.f. 2016-2017 for all courses)

The candidates who were detained earlier under year wise scheme and seeking readmission /admission on transfer shall be admitted under scheme only. The students so admitted shall have to appear & pass compulsory papers of 1st year and papers which are not equivalent/not studied earlier under year wise scheme.

Procedure Followed By Examination Branch For Conducting Internal Examinations For OU UG & PG Courses

  • Internal exams conducted as per OU schedule.
  • After receiving the OU schedule we request the HOD’s of various departments to prepare question papers , four sets in the case of UG and one set in the case of PG
  • They prepare the same and mail the softcopy to the examination branch and hardcopy also.
  • We prepare the time table and seating plan and display it in the notice board for convenience of the students.
  • The time table and seating plan will also be mailed to the students
  • At least three days prior to exam , we print the required number question papers, attendance sheets and other necessary documents.
  • At least two days prior to the exam invigilators duty list along with instructions will be sent to respective departments.
  • Upon completion of exam the invigilator handover the answer scripts to the branch.
  • Thereafter we send the same answer scripts to the respective departments.
  • We receive the answer scripts from the departments along with award list
  • A copy of the award list will be sent to the OU exam branch.

Procedure Followed By Examination Branch For Conducting External Examinations For OU UG & PG Courses

  • External exams conducted as per OU schedule.
  • After receiving the OU schedule, we receive center allotment letter, stationary and other requirements from OU for the smooth conducting of examination
  • On the date of exam, we receive the password to download the question paper from the University at least 15 minutes before the commencement of exam
  • We display the time table in the notice board
  • After downloading the question paper, we print the required number of copies and sent the same to the respective rooms.
  • At least two days prior to the exam invigilators duty list along with instructions will be sent to respective departments
  • Upon completion of exam the invigilator handover the answer scripts to the branch.
  • Thereafter we send the same answer scripts to the OU examination branch after proper packing.
  • During the process of exam, the absentees list will be sent to the OU exam branch through online
  • The exam branch is able to conduct the exams under the supervision of our respected principal.

Promotion of students to the higher class will be done in accordance with the following rules:

5 From Semester - V to Semester - VI Undergone a regular Course of study of Semester - V and registered * for the Semester - V examination.

EVALUATION METHOD

Following will be the Osmania University OU Evaluation Method:

  • Semester and Examination of Ability Compulsory Course (AECC) shall be conducted by the University and its marks shall be a part of SGPA and CGPA.
  • AECC has 2 credits and will be evaluated for 50 marks.: 10 marks internal assessment ( 10 MCQs and 10 FIBs of half mark each ) ; 40 marks for Semester End exam (Section A : 10 marks - 2 short answers of 5 marks each one from each unit : Section B : 30 marks - 2 long answers of 15 marks each, from each unit with internal choice.
    (AECC - I Course : Environmental Studies - The framing of syllabi, question paper, paper setting panel of examiners and other confidential related work with will be taken up by the Chairperson, BoS in Environmental Studies and AECC - II Course Gender Sensitization - the framing of syllabi, question paper, paper setting, panel of examiners and other confidential related work will be taken up by the Chairperson, BoS, in Sociology.)
  • Pattern of internal evaluation in UG Core and Elective papers ( 4 and 5 credit courses / papers ) is 2 internal assessment tests of 15marks each to be averaged and 1 assignment of 5 marks for a total of 20 marks. Each internal assessment question paper consists of 10 MCQs of 1/2 mark each; 10 FIBs 1/2 mark each; 5 short answers of 1 mark each.
  • No assignments for any 3 credit core / elective course/ paper.
  • No Internal Exam for practical course. Each 1 credit practical examination is evaluated at the end of semester for 25 marks. Evaluation by internal examiners for I, III & V Semesters and for II, IV & VI End Semesters by external examiners.
  • Patern of semester End Exam for UG Core and Elective papers (4 and 5 credit courses / papers ) :

    a. For ARTS, COMMERCE AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:
    » 5 Credit Course / paper (80 marks) : Section 'A' (20 marks) consists of 8 Short Answer Questions ( at least one from each unit) out of which 5 questions are to be answered. Each question carries 4 marks. Section ' B' (60marks ) - 5 long answer / essay type questions of 12 marks each with internal choice (2 to be set per unit ) .
    » 5 Credit Course / paper (80 marks) : Section 'A' (20 marks) consists of 8 Short Answer Questions ( two from each unit) out of which 5 questions are to be answered. Each question carries 4 marks. Section ' B' (60marks ) - 4 long answer / essay type questions with internal choice (2 to be set per unit ) .Each question carries 15 marks.

    b. For SCIENCE:
    » 4 Credit Course / paper (80 marks) : Section 'A' (20 marks) consists of 8 Short Answer Questions ( at least one from each unit) out of which 5 questions are to be answered. Each question carries 4 marks. Section ' B' (60marks ) - 4 long answer / essay type questions with internal choice (2 to be set per unit ). Each question carries 15 marks.
    » 3 Credit Course / paper (60 marks) : Section 'A' (15 marks) consists of 8 Short Answer Questions (at least two from each unit) out of which 5 questions are to be answered. Each question carries 3 marks. Section ' B' (45marks ) - 3 long answer / essay type questions with internal choice (2 to be set per unit ) .Each question carries 15 marks.

From the above table it is clear that passing marks are 40%.

Improvement of grades

A student who has passed in theory paper can reappear once in that theory paper for improvement in grade. However, such improved grades will not be considered for the award of prize / medal, rank and distinction. A student will not be allowed to improve grade in internal assessment, project work and seminar.

Duration Of Course

  • A student should complete the course in three years from the date of admission.
  • If the syllabus is revised then a student re appearing in the exam is allowed according to old syllabus up to max of 5 years from the date of admission.
  • A student of six semester three year course must complete the course in max. 5 years.
